Why would a beautiful young model kill herself by jumping off the 9th floor balcony of her Manhattan apartment?

Model Ruslana Korshunova is believed to have committed suicide on June 28, 2008 at around 2:30 p.m.; although there are many who doubt that the beautiful model did, in fact, commit suicide. Police ruled her death a suicide because they did not find any signs of a struggle in her apartment. Assuming her death was indeed a suicide, one of the main questions being asked is: “Why would such a beautiful girl with a thriving modeling career want to kill herself?”

No one who is on top of the world intentionally jumps off it. No one who is happy commits suicide. Ruslana Korshunova’s friends insist she was happy. If the model did indeed kill herself, clearly she was also a very good actress who was able to conceal her real pain from the world.

Sometimes people are lost, lonely, confused, hurting and in such deep pain that life becomes too much to bear; but they can’t let the world  know about it because the world would never understand. People get tired of you when you’re sad all the time. They don’t want to be bothered, especially if they keep trying to tell you that you have no reason to be sad; but no matter how much they tell you, you’re still sad.

No one can understand now why Ruslana Korshunova would want to kill herself. As far as the world can see she had everything; and this was probably her experience with her friends. They probably couldn’t understand what reason she might have to be unhappy, assuming she killed herself. Her friends probably took the same attitude most  of us take towards people who appear to have it all. What reason, or even what right do the beautiful, the rich, the talented, the smart have for complaining? They’re beautiful, they’re rich, they’re talented, they’re smart – they have everything!

Maybe there was something Ruslana Korshunova felt she didn’t have and believed her life was not worth living without. Maybe if she’d had someone who understood what it was like, whatever it was she was going through, someone who had gone through or was going through the same thing, she might not have felt so alone. All too often we go around pretending we’re perfect and our life is perfect. Sometimes people are dying to know that they aren’t alone in their lack of perfection, in their confusion and feeling of being lost. Sometimes just knowing they’re really not alone gives them that extra bit of strength they need to endure.
